DURBAN – EThekwini Municipality Mayor, Councillor Cyril Xaba, has commended the Human Aid Organisation in Sydenham for its continued commitment to supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged communities.
During a visit to the organisation, Mayor Xaba highlighted the important role played by community-based organisations in addressing social challenges and improving the quality of life for residents facing difficult circumstances.
The Human Aid Organisation provides a range of essential humanitarian services, including daily meals, primary healthcare support and assistance with the construction of houses for indigent families.
Operating for the past six years, the organisation has become an important source of support for people experiencing food insecurity. It currently provides between 200 and 800 meals every day, helping hundreds of residents access a basic necessity that many families struggle to afford.
Mayor Xaba praised the organisation for its dedication and the meaningful impact of its work, noting the importance of partnerships between the City and community organisations in responding to the needs of vulnerable residents.
As part of strengthening support for communities, the organisation is also working together with the City to establish a soup kitchen at the centre to serve residents of Ward 31.
The initiative is expected to provide further assistance to residents experiencing hunger and food insecurity while strengthening the City's efforts to support communities in need.
